Ozzie Guillen was back in the starting lineup Tuesday for only the second time in 10 games. Guillen still is being hobbled by a bad left knee. ”We want to see how he is today,” said Fregosi. ”If it`s sore after the game, we`ll send him home tomorrow to be checked out by the team doctor.”
Fregosi doesn`t expect Dave LaPoint to miss his next start. LaPoint suffered a bruised middle finger on his pitching hand Monday when he got hit by Kirby Puckett`s hot shot in the first inning.
Minnesota`s Billy Beane is glad he got a September callup from the Twins`
Triple-A team in Portland, Ore. ”I went from 2,000 fans and the Chicken to 35,000 and a pennant race,” Beane said.
Nobody probably noticed, but the Sox have a better record (59-79) after Tuesday`s action than the Los Angeles Dodgers (58-80). The difference is that the Dodgers already have drawn 2.5-million people, while the Sox are at 1,079,584.
