Jack McDowell`s turn was Tuesday. Now, Adam Peterson will get his chance Saturday, when he starts against Seattle. He`s looking forward to the opportunity. ”I`m hoping to make the most of it,” Peterson said. ”Maybe they`ll take a look at me for next year.”
The arrival of Peterson, McDowell and John Pawlowski was delayed for two weeks while they helped Birmingham win the Double-A Southern League title. But the young pitchers weren`t complaining about missing valuable time in the big leagues. ”We had the opportunity to get that ring, and that`s real important,” Peterson said.
Sox player personnel director Al Goldis naturally was beaming over McDowell`s performance. He`s also been raving about the Sox`s No. 2 draft pick, Brent Knackert. Goldis believes he has as much potential as McDowell. Knackert walked only four batters in 42 innings for the rookie league team in Sarasota, Fla. ”He`s a quality pitcher,” Goldis said.
