More than 700 workers struck Square D Co. plants in Peru, Ind., and Leeds, Ala., after rejecting a proposed contract that boosted wages 2 to 3 percent annually in return for work rule changes. Square D, based in northwest suburban Palatine, said employees at 11 other facilities also opposed the settlement but continued working, while seven plants approved the three-year contract.
