The desecration of the doors of the Orthodox Jewish synagogue on the North side of Chicago with the despicable insignia of the Nazi swastika is a display of the vicious hatred that permeates the lunatic fringes of our society.
But that lunacy is more than matched by the total indifference to this calculated despoliation of a religious house of worship by our city fathers from our mayor down to every member of the city council, where a resolution condemning this outrage was not even suggested by any member.
One is moved to ask whether the same silence would have prevailed if a Christian church, especially a black one, had been so desecrated.
