Multimillionaires on a picket line, on strike for more money-money that will come out of the pockets of shoe salesmen making 20 grand a year. It can only happen in America.
The average football player makes $230,000 a year, with minor corporations such as John Elway being paid $2 million a year guaranteed for years. He shows up for work only eight months a year, leaving four months off to sharpen his golf game. He rakes in extra dough from endorsements, personal appearances and rock videos. He gets much of his food and lodging paid for while in the work season.
Contrast this to the shoe salesman. He makes 20 grand a year, if he`s lucky, working five days a week, 50 weeks a year.
Football players say they need bigger bucks because their careers average only four years. I`ve got news for them. The average shoe salesman stays at his job only four years on the average also. But when the football player leaves football, he has a pile in the bank, a good pension, contacts aplenty and a future pretty well assured. When the shoe salesman quits, he leaves with flat feet, a grand in the bank, no TV glamor and no fancy contacts.
If football is wage slavery, I know 100 million Americans who`d love to be slaves.
