The Illinois Appellate Court has ruled that former Bears Waymond Bryant and Cid Edwards can bring malpractice suits against Dr. Theodore Fox for the way the team physician treated injuries they received in 1975 and 1977. The court ruled that Fox wasn`t an employee of the Bears and thus Bryant, a linebacker, and Edwards, a running back, weren`t barred from proceeding against Fox in personal injury suits because of the Workers Compensation Act. The court remanded the case back to Cook County Circuit Court Judge Edwin Berman for a determination of whether the Bears are covered by workers compensation. If they aren`t, the former players also can pursue malpractice suits against the team.
