Your coverage of the Bork nomination hearings is lamentable.

Recently you said that starting the next day we would be hearing from witnesses from various special-interest groups. In fact, these witnesses included people concerned with women`s issues, with racial issues and with civil rights. Neither women nor blacks can be considered special interests;

one need not belong to the ACLU to want to preserve the hard-won rights we all enjoy. Branding those who oppose Robert Bork`s nomination as ”special interests,” a derogatory appellation, is part of the White House`s public relations strategy.

Bork`s nomination is an important issue; both those who oppose him and those who support him deserve better. I urge you to cease parroting the position of the politically powerful and to exercise your 1st Amendment right to report the news.
