Robert Sherman, ”Illinois` most vocal atheist,” is demanding that the Kane County Board remove the religious symbols that are present on the county government center buildings. This demand is unreasonable and unnecessary.

The center was formerly a seminary, and the two crosses and several church pews that linger are simply novel remnants of the center`s past. Sherman makes them out to be something more than this. These symbols do not in any way impose religion on anyone.

The cost of $100,000 needed to rid the premises of all religious symbolism would be an outrageous expense, accomplishing little and undertaken for the pacification of a disgruntled few.
