When Jose Oquendo drove in Tony Pena from third base with a second-inning sacrifice fly, he broke a 16 1/3-inning scoreless string by Giants starter Dave Dravecky. That string is a National League Championship Series record, eclipsing the mark of 16 scoreless innings by Houston`s Mike Scott in 1986.
Tuesday night`s Busch Stadium attendance of 55,331 increased the six-game series total to an NLCS record 341,266.
Dravecky struck out four straight Cardinals in the fourth and fifth innings to tie an NLCS record.
Don Zimmer, third-base coach of the Giants formerly employed by the Cubs, is curious who the next Cubs manager might be. Cubs coach John Vukovich is one of the leading candidates.
”I spoke with `Vuk` today and he said he hasn`t heard a word,” said Zimmer.
The Montreal Expos confirmed Floyd Youmans has entered a drug rehabilitation clinic, but the team denied the right-hander was forced to do so by Commissioner Peter Ueberroth. Earlier reports said Youmans was threatened with a one-year suspension if he didn`t take part in a rehabilitation program.
