The number of quarterly dividend increases fell by more than 26 percent from a year earlier during the weeks immediately following the Oct. 19 stock market crash, according to Standard & Poor`s Corp. The New York ratings firm found that from Oct. 19 to 30 only 67 corporations announced they were raising their dividends, down from 91 increases in the year-earlier period.
