Congratulations to The Tribune for a fine editorial on the Chicago teachers` strike (”School strike must generate reform”).
The real shame of strikes such as Chicago`s is that they divert our attention from reforms badly needed not only in Chicago but in school systems throughout the country. Our schools need more accountability for results, higher standards and a richer curriculum.
This is what parents and taxpayers are calling for, and The Tribune deserves credit for reminding us of what is truly important to our children`s futures.
