James K. Ashford, president and chief executive officer of Tenneco Inc.`s automotive subsidiary based in suburban Lincolnshire, was named head of Tenneco`s J I Case Co. unit. Ashford, 50, who has worked in the company`s automotive business since 1958, succeeds Jerome K. Green as president and CEO of Case, the nation`s No. 2 maker of farm equipment based in Racine, Wis. Green resigned unexpectedly last week in what was called ”a mutual decision.” The company named J.P. Reilly, senior vice president of Tenneco Automotive, to succeed Ashford.
