Chicago just loves winning teams. So when the Marian Catholic High School marching band of Chicago Heights took first place in the grand national championship competition held in the Silverdome on Nov. 14, Chicagoland residents had another winning team to be proud of. Actually, every one of the 10,000 or so students from all 50 competing bands were ”winners” because of the tremendous amount of hard work and self-sacrifice it takes to be in a top- ranked marching band.
But did the Chicago area residents hear about the accomplishments of these great young people? Of course not, because after you print the news of the one or two students who shoot a teacher, or wear an earring to class, there`s just no room for the ”boring” stuff. No wonder so many people have such a negative view of our nation`s young people.
