Age: 55.

Birthplace: Galveston, Tex.

Current homes: Manhattan, the Hamptons, Hollywood and London.

Marital status: Married for 25 years to David Christian.

Children: None.

Working on: Promoting ”Overboard,” with Goldie Hawn; costarring on

”Who`s the Boss?” on ABC; and with my husband coproducing ”Plain Jane,”

a movie that he`s written and I`m going to act in.

The last good movie I saw was: ”Room with a View.”

The book I`ve been recommending lately is: ”Life and Death in Shanghai,” by Nien Cheng.

Nobody knows I: Fancy myself an archeologist working away in Egypt discovering King Tut`s tomb.

I wish I could stop: Worrying so much about trying to be perfect. Intellectually, I know I can`t, but emotionally, I keep trying.

I`m better than anyone else when it comes to: Picking weeds. Gardening is a form of meditation for me.

If I could do it over, I`d: Take responsibility for my career at a much earlier date. I had this fanciful notion that if you`re a good actor, you just float about in the universe, and people find you.

If I had children, I`d teach them: To take responsibility for their choices. Too many people drift too long.

A really great evening to me is: Being in London, having a lovely dinner, going to the theater and then meeting friends.

My fantasy is: I`m playing in ”Hamlet” on the stage in London.

The worst advice my mother ever gave me was: ”Don`t toot your own horn.” When you`re out in the world, you have to.

The best time of my life: Between 1962 and 1970, when my husband and I worked in repertory theater. I really grew as an actress.

The worst time of my life: I was working in a theater in Houston, and it closed unexpectedly. It was Easter, and I took a job as a bunny rabbit and passed out candy.

When people first meet me: They`re surprised that I`m rather reserved and quite organized. They expect Gracie Allen.
