The budget cuts being considered by Congress make it painfully clear how much this country has changed in the past few decades. It is willing to cut $2 billion from Medicare but not a penny from the many billions of

unnecessary, wasteful foreign aid. And, of course, it would be unthinkable to cut the lavish perks enjoyed by congressmen.

There was a time when Congress and the administration at least tried to give the appearance of looking out for the people of this country; now they show blatant contempt for those who elect and pay them.
