Shortly after moving to Chicago, I noticed that when raised in conversation, the words ”Indiana,” ”Wisconsin” and ”Iowa,” no matter what the context, will give any Chicagoans away by way of a pompous chuckle.

Being from Indiana, where people think of their neighboring states in a more amiable way, I found this attitude annoying.

Your article, ”These mall mavens go the distance,” about a group of hospital employees from Elkhart, Ind., taking a field trip to Woodfield Mall, was particularly offensive to me. I`m sure anyone who has read the article will admit that it was nothing more than a way to touch the pompous Chicagoans` funny bone by making fun of these people.

I realize, of course, that Chicago`s people will always be the same. However, due to the media this less than commendable attitude will only grow worse.
