The AFC has a reputation of being a more wide-open conference. The statistics seem to bear that out. Not counting replacement games, AFC teams had 30 300-yard passing games, 53 100-yard receiving games and 31 100-yard rushing games.
In the National Football Conference, there were 21 300-yard passing games, 43 100-yard receiving games and 28 100-yard rushing games.
The NFC`s image of being a more defensive conference also held true. NFC teams allowed 23 300-yard passing games, 45 100-yards receiving games and 25 100-yard rushing games.
AFC teams allowed 28 300-yard passing games, 52 100-yard receiving games and 34 100-yard rushing games.
The AFC figures don`t count Monday`s game between the Patriots and Dolphins.
Five of the six teams that play in domes made the playoffs. Only Detroit missed.
The NFC won the interconference series 23-22-1.
Cincinnati and San Francisco were the only teams that didn`t allow a 300-yard passing game. Atlanta was the only team not to allow a 100-yard receiving game. The Bears, Denver, Minnesota and New Orleans didn`t allow a 100-yard rushing game.
