”St. Elsewhere” (9 p.m. Wednesdays on NBC-Ch. 5) will offer yet another obscure television joke when Jack Dodson, a regular on the old ”Andy Griffith Show” and ”Mayberry, R.F.D.,” appears again as Judge Thornton, a St. Eligius board member.
In an episode to air early this year, the cancer-ridden Thornton is surprised to see an Episcopal priest at his bedside after placing a call on his hospital room phone.
”You dialed `27` for a priest?” Thornton is asked. ”No, I thought I dialed `28` for Floyd, the barber,” he answers, referring to another character from the old CBS series-Floyd Lawson, played by Howard McNear.
