Following the recent violence on the West Bank and in Gaza, world pressure is once again levied against Israel to somehow unilaterally resolve this difficult dilemma.

Yet I observe no pressure being applied toward the other players, particularly the PLO. If it were not for the PLO`s ruthless terrorist methods and failure to accept anything less than the complete destruction of Israel, a settlement already might have been reached. Likewise, the Arab states, with the laudatory exception of Egypt, envision the destruction of Israel and continue to engage in a practice of belligerency and hatred.

Unless the PLO and hostile Arab states face reality and recognize Israel, peace will be a distant dream. Non-recognition also leads to the strengthening of the Israeli political right wing whose arguments become more persuasive in light of continued Arab obstinancy.
