I feel that it is time to amend the federal wage and hour act after about 50 years.
The area that I feel should be amended pertains to time-and-a half overtime pay for hours exceeding 40 hours per week.
Amending the overtime provisions to time-and-one-half after 35 hours and double time after 40 hours will, I believe, foster more jobs by discouraging layoffs in favor of overtime.
Other areas of the act have been mentioned as requiring amendment. Specifically, I am referring to the minimum wage. I feel that an increase will not produce additional jobs. In fact an increase may reduce employment opportunities.
