Hula-Hoop aficionados should be feeling a seven-year itch now, according to the hoop`s promoters, who predict a resurgence for the toy that became a symbol of the 1950s.
”The Hula-Hoop runs in seven-year cycles. Right now we`re in a real up cycle, probably the biggest since the Hula-Hoop was introduced,” said Bob Gardner, president of Gardner Communications. His West Coast advertising agency is developing the first Hula-Hoop TV commercial in 25 years.
Kransco Group Co., whose Wham-O division makes the Hula-Hoop, sold 2 million hoops last year, double the previous year`s figure. The company expects to sell 3 million to 4 million this year and hopes toy buyers are tired of talking dolls and electronic games.
