Help-wanted advertising declined in January, an indication that employers could be scaling back their hiring plans, according to the Conference Board. The New York-based research group said its seasonally adjusted Help-Wanted Index registered 153 in January, down from 155 in December. Kenneth Goldstein, an economist with the Conference Board, said the figures suggest ”a slowdown in hiring plans” as well as ”overall sluggish economic growth.”
