Edwin Meese has assumed power beyond the scope of his office. His involvement in the WedTech affair, the Iran-contra scheme and the Iraqi pipeline deal has created an air of doubt and suspicion with respect to his ethical conduct.

With typical ”sound and fury,” Mr. Meese in defending himself has raised further questions about his honesty and integrity. Newspaper accounts relating his alleged improprieties make one wonder about his effectiveness as a role model for the young, future lawyers of this nation.

His recent resolve to close the United Nations office of the Palestine Liberation Organization at a time when our secretary of state, George Shultz, is trying to effect Arab/Israeli peace negotiations is both short-sighted and stupid. It would be best for him to resign and save himself further embarrassment.
