In the March 9 Tribune article ”Advisory referendums take places on the ballots,” there were several serious errors. The most important referendum, and perhaps the most critical moral issue in Tuesday`s primary election, is the referendum to halt Illinois National Guard training in Central America.

Your reporter suggests that such a vote is ”meaningless,” yet this is the first chance Illinois voters have had to address the use of Illinois National Guard to prepare the way for a potential U.S. invasion of Nicaragua. The article mistakenly says that ”peace activist groups and those opposed to American intervention in Nicaragua and Central America” are pushing a ”no” vote. This is absolutely false. All peace groups are pushing a ”yes” vote in favor of the referendum, as are religious groups and organizations concerned with civil rights and the use of minorities in any way in Central America.
