I don`t quite understand why you decided to stir up the over-and-done-with controversy surrounding the sale of First Church of Christ, Scientist in Oak Park, with your article ”Despite troubles, 2 churches live Easter message of hope.”
Your report suggests that the church turned down an offer from Unity Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church for racial reasons. How about giving details of the offer, such as a lot of promissory notes instead of cash, and a move-out date only a couple of months away? Instead, with the offer it took, the church gets cash up front and enough time to find a new home. Oak Park gets a big property back on the tax rolls.
I don`t think a crummy offer like Unity Fellowship made would have been seriously considered if the Baptists hadn`t been black and if there hadn`t been a lot of hostile publicity.
