I was surprised to find myself quoted in Mr. Egler`s report (”Con-Con drive may get new push,” April 15) as saying that unless merit selection of judges is passed by the legislature, Common Cause will push for a

constitutional convention.

Quite simply, I didn`t say that. What I did say as a member of the Committee of 50 is ”merit selection is the issue discussed most often by people testifying before the committee in favor of a convention. And it would appear that unless favorable action on merit selection is taken in this session of the General Assembly, momentum for a convention will build.”

As for Common Cause, the organization has not taken a position on a Con-Con.
