The Coast Guard is trying to save $48 million by substantially cutting back on patrols as well as closing dozens of Coast Guard stations around the country. The Coast Guard will totally eliminate three specialized units that inspect recreational boats to make sure they are safe.

Now we hear that our Coast Guard is ready, willing and able to trot over to the Gulf oil crisis and risk men and boats to defend foreign oil. Where did this money come from?

Lets keep the Coast Guard doing what its name implies-guarding our coast.
