A resolution calling for a legislative investigation into the May 8 fire at Illinois Bell`s Hinsdale switching station was defeated in the House last week, according to its sponsor, Rep. James Stange (R., Oak Brook), who accused the telephone company of lobbying against the study. The state`s other study of the fire, by the Illinois Commerce Commission, will continue Wednesday with a preliminary meeting to discuss the scope of the investigation, which started last month. The ICC has hired a Maryland engineering firm with a national reputation in fire investigations to head the study.
