I always look forward to William Raspberry`s columns in The Chicago Tribune.
He is always opened-minded, fair and most thoughtful in his subject.
However, in his column of July 15, in a paragraph near the end, he states that Jesse Jackson`s campaign for the presidential nomination came close to achieving the miracle that would have most dramatically advanced the status of blacks in America.
Let`s look at the success and dominance of blacks in all of the major sports, in the entertainment world and the political world: they hold the office of mayor in many of the country`s largest cities.
When one considers the fact that they are a minority, they deserve enormous credit for their accomplishments.
They have not lost status by Jesse Jackson`s campaign.
