Westwind, the first development for Centex Homes in west suburban Carol Stream, is more than one-third sold.

Rich Howe, Centex vice president, credited the home designs for the success of the 186-unit single-family development.

”In addition to offering variety in terms of seven ranch and two-story floor plans, we were committed to offering originality as well,” Howe said.

”Each of the plans was freshly designed to offer new themes rather than merely variations on existing ones buyers see over and over again. We`ve even copyrighted these plans so their uniqueness to Centex will be maintained.”

Also attractive to Westwind buyers has been the value being offered in room sizes and space utilization.

He said buyers also appear to be responding to the homes` room sizes and space utilization.

”We`ve essentially allowed for no awkward or unusable square footage in our plans,” Howe said. ”Every nook and cranny was put to work. In one case, we turned the space under a stairway landing into an enclosed storage area.” Howe said that kitchens have been designed with large, brightly-lit work areas, extra counter space, island cabinets, and extra cabinet and pantry storage.

”Between the large number of exterior elevations, bath and bay window options, and the variations offered for each of the individual interior floor plans, buyers can create a personalized custom feeling,” he said. ”In terms of exteriors alone, between the number of elevations and trim packages offered, buyers have many choices available.”

The seven three- or four-bedroom, 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 bath ranch and two-story homes range in size from 1,568 to 2,204 square feet. Priced from $116,900, each home comes with an attached two-car garage, asphalt driveway/

approach, and a sodded yard and parkway.

Standard interior features include carpeting, no-wax vinyl flooring, and laminated kitchen counter tops, all in a choice of decorator selected colors. Designer cabinetry, first-floor laundry/utility rooms, and a gas forced-air heating system are also included in the purchase price.

Westwind is located on Lies Road, 1/4 mile east of Fair Oaks Road in Carol Stream.
