”David Bowie: The Glass Spider Tour” (David Bowie: David Mallet, dir. MPI Home Video, 1988; color. Running time: 110 min. $29.95)
For those who missed David Bowie`s ”Glass Spider” tour last year, or want to see it again, this video version offers all of the excitement, spectacle and music-with much better sight lines than those enjoyed (or endured) by the average concert goer in the huge stadium venues where Bowie and crew played.
One of 1987`s most visually engrossing concerts, the show features a five-person troupe of engagingly quirky dancers throughout and an opening sequence that finds Bowied descending from a giant spider that figures prominently in the stage setting.
The singer accompanied by a sizzling backing band that includes Peter Frampton on lead guitar, is in top form as Bowie moves through a 20-song set that includes ”Heroes,” ”Young Americans,” ”Rebel Rebel,” ”Jean Genie,” ”Fame,” an encore sequence featuring Iggy Pop`s ”I Want to Be Your Dog” and the Velvet Underground`s ”White Light White Heat” and for the final encore, his own ”Modern Love.”
