About a dozen students in Westmont School District 201 are expected to enroll in a new program ”designed to assist preschool-age children who are showing developmental learning delays,” District Supt. Donald Wold said Thursday. It is not intended for mentally retarded children, he said.
The program will be funded by a recently approved $39,600 state grant. It is expected to become available to qualifying 3- and 4-year-olds later this school year, he said, after the district establishes criteria for admittance. ”As the years go by, we see more and more students who are entering kindergarten with some delayed skill levels,” Wold said.
