Great Lakes shipments of iron ore, coal and stone soared to nearly 17 million tons in July, the highest monthly tally this season, said the Lake Carriers` Association. Iron ore shipments in July jumped 33 percent from a year earlier, to 8.3 million tons. Coal shipments hit 5.1 million tons, the highest level in a year.
