– Best bet: Heptathlon winner Jackie Joyner-Kersee takes center stage in the finals of the women`s long jump in prime time. Florence Griffith Joyner goes for a world record in the 200-meter final in the wee morning hours.

– Schedule: Morning coverage of track and field, women`s basketball and the preliminaries of rhythmic gymnastics begins at 6 a.m. with Jane Pauley, Jimmy Cefalo and Gayle Gardner. Ahmad Rashad anchors the 3 p.m. wrapup of the day`s events.

Bryant Gumbel will have his hands full with weightlifting, track and field, judo, volleyball, freestyle wrestling and tennis competition in prime time, which begins at 6:30 p.m.

Bob Costas will be on at 11:30 p.m. with plenty of live coverage of track and field events, including the men`s 5,000-meter semifinal and the women`s 1,500 heats with Mary Decker Slaney.
