It boggles the mind. Where does Ald. Robert Shaw get off accusing supporters of Ald. David Orr`s city council accountability measures of racism? Is it racism to insist that aldermen disclose how they spend our tax dollars? Nonsense. Is it racism to suggest that aldermen shouldn`t be allowed to pad city council committee payrolls with precinct captains and political cronies who draw city salaries and benefits without doing any work for the taxpayers? Ridiculous.
Following Ald. Shaw`s ”reform equals racism” logic, we can only conclude that the late Mayor Harold Washington must have been antiblack. After all, it was Washington who championed Chicago`s ethics ordinance and other
”good government” reforms.
