St. Viator had won four straight games, including two straight in the East Suburban Catholic Conference, and was ranked 14th in The Tribune`s Top 20.

Marist had lost two straight after winning its first two and was 0-2 in the East Suburban Catholic.

So when they met Friday night in Arlington Heights, no one would have suspected that Marist would end up on the winning end of a 28-6 score.

But that`s what happened.

The visiting Redskins spotted St. Viator a first-quarter touchdown and a 6-0 lead on a 5-yard run by Brian Dunlavy. That came after Viator recovered a fumbled punt at the Marist 28-yard line. Then Marist, which has beaten St. Viator the last three times the teams have played, went to work.

In the second quarter, Terry Callahan scored twice, on runs of 12 and 28 yards. The first TD capped an 11-play, 64-yard drive that was all on the ground. Touchdown runs of 2 yards by Jeff Kulik in the third quarter and 35 yards by Tim Nitsche in the fourth quarter sealed the victory.
