Elk Grove Village has allocated $50,000 for educating residents about the village`s new recycling program. The Village Board approved the allocation Tuesday night.
Beginning Nov. 14, residents of all single-family residences in the village will be required to sort newspapers, glass, metal containers and plastic from their garbage and place the items in special bins provided by the village. Residents will receive information about the program in the mail next week.
The bins, which will have four compartments, will be picked up once a week by a private contractor, Garden City Disposal Co. Homeowners will be billed an additional $1.40 per month for the service. The village will continue to pick up all other trash.
