The protest of the North Western rail settlement by Alan E. Thompson, legislative representative of the union, was nothing more than a political statement.

Everyone knows that the ”featherbedding” of unions has resulted in great increases in prices to the customer as well as a loss of jobs to foreign markets. No one argues with the merits of unionism, but I am sure everyone who pays the bills agrees that ”work without need” is ”pay without work.” The automobile industry now recognizes, almost too late, that excesses in the union workplace resulted in a loss of markets and loss of jobs. ”An honest day`s work for an honest day`s pay” is still the only rule.
