Police are investigating a fire that started in a basement storage locker in a laundry room at the Glendale Estates apartment complex and caused an estimated $5,000 damage.

Fire crews were called to 673 E. Fullerton Ave. after a resident of the complex smelled smoke in the building at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Glenside Fire Protection District officials say the fire is of ”a suspicious nature” and they add that Glendale Heights police have started an arson investigation.

There were no injuries in the blaze. Fire crews contained it to the basement.
