This year`s theme for the annual meeting of the Illinois Arborist Association wasn`t hard for people involved with trees to come up with, given the summer of 1988.
It`s After the Drought-Tree Problems in 1989.
George Ware, president of the association and research director at Morton Arboretum, said the two-day meeting will be held Dec. 13 and 14 at Pheasant Run resort, St. Charles.
This year`s record drought and temperature levels are presumed to have created a lot of stress for growing things. Various speakers will look into tree decline from stress, disease and other causes.
The sessions are open to the public, with a $50 fee for one day and $70 for both days.
One of the speakers, Edward Hasselkus of the University of Wisconsin, will speak on the selection of trees that are tolerant to drought.
