Can one ever begin to fathom the ending of that momentous week in our history?
One one side of the Atlantic, the president of the West German parliament, Phillip Jenninger, is forced to resign because of his remarks on the 50th anniversary of Kristallnacht concerning Hitler and the obliteration of 6 million Jews.
On the other side, for three months George Bush runs a presidential campaign filled with racism and bigotry, thereby disengaging himself from 25 million of his fellow citizens who happen to be black, and he is elected leader of the free world`s No. 1 democracy.
And there is not so much as a whimper of protest-not from a bishop, not from a minister, not even from a rabbi.
