The Palestinian people, through their representative body, the Palestine National Council, have demonstrated a remarkable commitment to peace by stating their willingness to give up their legitimate claims to most of Palestine in return for an independent state in a tiny portion of their ancestral homeland. It would be tragic indeed if Israel and the United States were to ignore or dismiss this important statement.
