In a recent Voice of the People, Fredric C. Olds made several comments on how ”the Soviets got away scot-free with their bold invasion” of Afghanistan.

It`s really amazing how short one`s memory can be. It was just 15 years ago that another superpower pulled out of a small Southeast Asian country, tail between its legs, and did not bother with any reconstructive ”mopping . . . and patching up” of so many homes and villages.

Maybe if this country had done then what Mr. Olds seems to think the Soviets should do now, we wouldn`t have so many of our soldiers still missing in action. I guess it depends on which foot the shoe is on.
