For too long now, we have been deluded by the cliche in automobile commercials: ”Buy a car from us and we will give you $500 to $1,500 cash back.” Sometimes there are additional dollars offered, in flowery language, as a bonus designed to induce me to buy that car.

We know the car manufacturer and the dealer must make a profit to stay in business and we wish them success in this. But it is nonsense to believe the

”cash back” is a gift of a share of the profit if I buy the car! The money referred to as ”cash back” is simply a ”refund of overcharge.”

So let`s stop the fiasco and establish a bona fide net selling price and then dwell on the merits of the car and the service of the seller.
