I read Harriet Beecher Stowe`s antislavery novel ”Uncle Tom`s Cabin”

many years ago, and I gained from that reading the distinct impression that the character was kindly disposed and possessed of a keen intelligence and good common sense. Furthermore, he did what he could to assist young slaves to escape the institution of slavery via the ”underground railway.”

Therefore, I find it quite silly for the acting mayor and some of his defenders to be demanding a public apology from one of our aldermen who is alleged to have characterized Sawyer as being an Uncle Tom.
