As the ball was being settled on the kick-off tee, attendees of an annual Super Bowl party held recently in Wheaton readied their lists of pool picks.
For many of the guests, this was no easy task. We`re talking trying to organize major amounts of numbers: bowling night picks, work picks, friendship bets, party pools, grudge money bets, favorite team allegiance . . . there was even Bud Light versus Bud regular money floating around. And different pools carried different interval payoffs: quarter, half, final and every time the score changed.
Just before the ball sailed into the air, one of the big-list holders uttered some profound words.
”You know, even if I won, I wouldn`t collect enough to cover the amount I`ve bet.”
As the saying goes, it`s not whether you win or lose that matters, but try not to lose before the event begins.

QUOTABLE QUOTES A large white posterboard in the teacher`s lounge at St. Francis High School in Wheaton gives teachers the opportunity to share the more notable
”classroom quotes.”
Sometimes it`s the teachers who say funny things. Like, ”Would you please talk the stopping!”
But the prize for the most original student quote goes to: ”Calling my parents won`t make me any smarter.”
