I went shopping today at a major grocery chain. When I went to pick up my sacked goods I was surprised to see that the bag boy had used plastic sacks.
I asked him why they had stopped using paper and he said, ”Oh, you can get paper but you gotta ask,” and proceeded to hand me a flier with illustrations of five happy plastic sacks: ”Five great reasons why we bag with plastic bags-”stonger than paper,” ”plastic is waterproof,” etc.
Excuse me, Jewel executives, but I have one big reason not to use plastic bags. If you have not heard, landfills are becoming scarce! Your
”happy” plastic sacks will take hundreds of years to decompose.
When there are profits to be made, big business will rape the countryside. Insist on paper bags next time you shop.
