TELLABS INC. said first-quarter net income dropped 9.7 percent, to $2.47 million, or 20 cents a share, from $2.73 million, or 21 cents a share, in the year-earlier period. Sales of the Lisle-based firm rose 19 percent, to $40.4 million from $33.95 million.
