Dr. Herbert J. Buchsbaum, chairman of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, has died. He was 55.

Dr. Buchsbaum died Monday of a heart attack in his Milwaukee home.

He joined the Milwaukee college last year. Previously, he was a professor at the University of Pittsburgh College of Medicine and head of gynecology-oncology at Magee Women`s Hospital.

Born in Vienna, he was graduated from New York University and the University of Munich medical school.

Survivors include his wife, Linda, and two children, Jonathan and Julie.
