– Delayed in transit: Forward Mike Eagles, who was among the Blackhawks`
final cuts, hasn`t reported yet to the minor-league club in Indianapolis as he was told to do by the parent club. Hawks GM Bob Pulford said Eagles is going through a difficult time in deciding his future because he feels he is good enough to play in the NHL. Eagles, 26, came to the Hawks from Quebec in July, 1988, in a trade for goalie Bob Mason. A broken hand limited him to 47 games last season, in which he had 5 goals and 11 assists.
– Minor matters: Everett Sanipass was Player of the Week in the International Hockey League in the period ending Wednesday. The left winger scored two goals and had an assist in his two games with Indianapolis. Goalie Jimmy Waite was said to have played very well in his one performance so far, though the Ice is still looking for a victory after tying in both games. Left wing Dan Vincelette was supposed to toughen up his game in the minors, and he`s trying- if the penalty minutes are a reflection. In two games, he`s sat in the box for 26 minutes. Another winger, Bob Bassen, had two assists in the last game. – Long apprenticeship: Jeff Reese, who started in goal for the Leafs Thursday against the Hawks, hasn`t been an overnight success in the Toronto organization. He was the 67th player chosen overall when the Leafs took him in the 1984 draft. Since then, the 23-year-old has seen action in the Ontario League with London and in the American League with Newmarket.
– Channel switch: SportsChannel has changed the game that Chicagoans will see Sunday night. Instead of Calgary-Philadelphia, the cable station will beam the Los Angeles game at Edmonton, where former Oiler Wayne Gretzky may break Gordie Howe`s all-time points record. Going into Friday night`s game at Vancouver, Gretzky is five points away from the record.
– Vigilant Vaive: Ex-Hawk Rick Vaive, now with Buffalo, noticed he was lined up against the wrong Toronto Maple Leaf at the start of their game Wednesday night. Vaive reported at the first stoppage of play that the Leafs had started a lineup different from the one they handed in and helped get the Sabres a quick power play.
– Blues blues: A major test of whether the Hawks have improved from last season will come Saturday night in St. Louis. They lost all four games in the regular season at The Arena last season. But in the playoffs, the Hawks won two games there. Blues goalie Greg Millen already won one game over the Hawks this season and is 7-1-1 over them in his last nine regular-season efforts.
